Billing & payments
Billing Policy
Summary
Evigate has two plans, Free and Paid ($150/month), that differ only by usage limits; every feature works on both. Billing runs through Paddle Payments, our merchant of record. Usage is metered in-product; the billing provider tracks payment only. This page explains plans, limits, renewals, and what happens at the edges (grace periods, downgrades, BYOK).
1. Plans and pricing
| Free | Paid | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $150 / month (USD) |
| Documents | 10 | 5,000 |
| Questions answered | 50 | 100,000 |
The current limits and price are also published on the Pricing page and served from the application, so the figures you see always match what the system enforces.
2. What counts against your limits
Two metered quantities, enforced before the costly action runs:
- Documents: source evidence items you ingest.
- Questions answered: questions for which the system drafts an answer.
For non-BYOK accounts, the platform also applies internal cost ceilings to protect against runaway or abusive AI spend (e.g. rolling daily/monthly caps on platform-key usage). These exist to keep the service sustainable and do not change your plan limits above; heavy users should upgrade or use BYOK.
3. No feature gating
Free and paid are the same product at different numeric limits. No capability (citations, the answer library, projects, export, BYOK, data deletion/export) is locked behind the paid plan. You pay for volume, not features.
4. Payments and merchant of record
Paid subscriptions are sold and processed by Paddle, acting as the merchant of record. Paddle is the seller of record, processes your card/payment, and handles applicable taxes. Checkout is presented inline on our own site (you are not redirected elsewhere), but the payment fields themselves are served and handled by Paddle. We never see or store your full payment-card details; we store only a billing/customer identifier and your plan state. Plan changes are driven solely by Paddle's signed webhook events: the authoritative source of truth for whether an account is paid.
5. Renewals, upgrades, and downgrades
- Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically each month until
cancelled.
- Upgrade. Upgrading raises your limits effective immediately.
- Downgrade / cancel. From Settings → Billing. Cancelling is not immediate:
it takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep your full paid limits until that date, and you are not charged again. After it passes, your account reverts to Free-plan limits. Your data is retained on downgrade: the downgrade lowers the limits that apply to *new* activity and never deletes anything you have already stored. You can reinstate before the end date from the billing portal.
6. Grace period and non-payment
If a renewal payment fails, your subscription may be marked past-due and given a grace period during which access continues, then revert to Free-plan limits until payment succeeds. Resolving payment restores paid limits automatically.
7. BYOK and provider costs
If you add your own API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, a local Ollama endpoint, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint), the AI compute for your runs is billed directly to you by that provider, not by us, under your own agreement with them. BYOK accounts are exempt from the platform AI cost ceilings because they spend on their own accounts. Embeddings are never BYOK — they always run on our local platform model and are never billed to a provider. Your Evigate subscription price is unchanged by BYOK.
8. Taxes
Applicable taxes (e.g. GST/VAT/sales tax) are collected and remitted by Paddle as merchant of record and may be added at checkout based on your location.
9. Refunds
Paid fees are non-refundable except for genuine billing errors and any non-waivable rights under applicable law; see the Refund Policy. The Free plan includes every feature, so evaluate the product fully before paying.
